Veesion is experiencing rapid growth following its successful Series B funding round. This expansion phase requires strengthening our technical foundation and scaling our development capabilities to meet increasing market demands.
Veesion leads the market in retail theft prevention technology. We transform product security and operational efficiency through our innovative system. Our solution integrates sophisticated video analytics, AI intelligence, and user-friendly interfaces to prevent theft instantly and provide valuable data. We now seek a Staff Data Scientist to offer an outstanding leadership and mentorship to the growing Data Team.
Missions
You will become part of our Data Team, which includes MLOps and Data Science specialists. Your main responsibility will center on enhancing our AI models to boost client satisfaction. This requires developing creative solutions to minimize theft detection failures and unnecessary alerts.
N.B: This position is not focused on Deep Learning but on tabular Machine Learning, statistics, probabilities and scientific approaches.
Working closely with Tanguy, Head of Data, you will interact with several key teams:
- Chief Executive Officer: Coordinate business goals and priorities
- Chief Scientific Officer: Sharpen problem analysis and approaches
- Tech Team: Collaborate with over 20 software engineers to integrate AI features effectively into Veesion's platforms.
- You’ll have the ownership on refining camera performance metrics by choosing specific models, adjusting key parameters, and setting precise detection levels.
- You’ll spearhead multi-team initiatives centered on Data Science excellence, fostering breakthroughs and measurable results.
- You’ll select and organize high-quality datasets to improve metric accuracy and enable robust theoretical testing.
- By examining real-world system data, you’ll determine development focus areas and shape executive strategy.
- You’ll work on deploying video AI algorithms across various cloud platforms for both training and inference tasks.
- You’ll orchestrate and execute comprehensive comparison tests on-site to measure and enhance AI solution effectiveness.
- You’ll mentor and support the growth of Data Scientists on the team through learning sessions, collaborative projects, and regular brainstorming.
You’re a Great Match If
- Education: you have a Master’s degree or equivalent in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience: you have at least 7 years of professional data science or ML Engineering experience (excluding internships), with a strong focus on applying AI and data solutions to real-world challenges.
- You excel at Python and SQL coding and you work effectively with Git for version control.
- You demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of statistics, probabilities, and machine learning concepts, as well you master statistics, probabilities, and machine learning concepts and visualization techniques.
- You solve complex problems with precision and you deliver concrete solutions that harmonize technical requirements with business objectives.
- You enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others grow — mentoring, leading learning sessions, and fostering collaborative thinking come naturally to you.
- You like to navigate dynamic environments with ease and quickly shift between changing priorities.
- You express concepts clearly and work productively with various stakeholders.
- You create precise, impactful deliverables backed by reproducible code.
Nice to have
- Expertise in AWS cloud services and pipeline orchestration tools.
- Proficiency with GitHub Actions workflows and Python testing automation.
- Mastery of Polars or DuckDB for high-performance data processing.
- Competence with Docker and MLOps methodologies.
Recruitment Process
- HR Screening Call (30 min)
- Technical Interview 1 (1.5 hours, remote): Interview with the Head of Data and Chief Scientific Officer to dive deeper into your scientific expertise and approach to solving real-world challenges.
- Technical interview 2 (1 hour, remote): Technical exercices focused on ML engineering skills with the Head of Data and an MLOps.
- Final Interview (1 hour, onsite): Meet with our CEO and the rest of the Data team to discuss cultural fit, expectations, and long-term goals.
